Efforts to promote and transit
to green/renewable energy in Africa have
continued to increase momentum.
The German government in Nigeria has
added its support towards the building of green technologies in the continent.
German Ambassador to Nigeria,
Micheal Zenner, said his country was already carrying out a research to find
areas of need to support Africa .
Speaking in an exclusive
interview with Nkechinyere Itodo, Ambassador Zenner was of the view that within
the transition period, Africa could, before renewable energy use is completely
achieved in the continent, exploit the use of gas instead of coal, because gas
energy is less polluting than other classical energy sources.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 98, 000 Nigerian women die annually from smokes inhaled while cooking with firewood, thousands of hectares of forest lands are degraded and millions of trees are cut down for fire-wood and charcoal business, a practice which is the major cause of deforestation and land degradation thereby leading to desertification, climate change and threaten Agricultural productivity. Clean and Sustainable energy will pave ways for Environmental Sustainability for socio-economic development, improved livelihood and human well-being. The Time For Action is Right Now.
